IBISWorld
IBISWorld gives access to a collection of industry market research reports and business environment profiles. The university has access to the following main modules:
- UK Industry Reports (UK SIC)
- US Industry Reports (NAICS)
- China Industry Reports
- UK Business Environment Profiles
- US Business Environment Profiles
We also have access to the UK Brexit Impact Statements and UK Risk Ratings Reports.
Searching
In order to locate useful reports and business environment profiles you can search using keywords, company name or code.
If you would like to narrow down your results by region and content type, use the filters on the left of the results page.
Please remember that RGU only subscribes to: UK Industry Reports (UK SIC), US Industry Reports (NAICS), China Industry Reports, UK Business Environment Profiles, US Business Environment Profiles and UK Risk Ratings Reports. We also have access to the UK Brexit Impact Statements. These are designed to help the user understand the potential impact of Brexit in the industry and will continue to be updated.
Example
If you don't find what you want try thinking of different ways to describe your topic, for example:
- housing: try searching for construction (if you are looking at the building aspect) or estate agents (if you are interested in selling houses)
- car: try automobile
Browsing
As well as searching, you can also browse to find useful reports and profiles. You can browse under the headings of Industry Research or Risk Ratings at the top left of the screen:
Once you have chosen which area to look at you will be able to browse through a full list of the relevant reports/profiles.
When you find a report you are interested in simply click it to see the full item.
Industry Reports
IBISWorld gives access to Industry reports from the UK, US and China.
Each report includes a number of main sections with subsections underneath, the exact content of the subsections varies depending on the industry and country but this list should give an idea of the type of information you could find:
- About this industry - definitions / supply chain information / major players
- Industry at a glance - "executive summary" about the industry / statistics snapshot
- Industry performance - external drivers / current performance
- Industry outlook - outlook / lifecycle information
- Products and markets - supply chain information / products / services / markets / international trade / locations
- Competitive landscape - markets share concentration / key success factors / cost structure benchmarks / barriers to entry
- Major companies - information about companies operating in this sector
- Operating conditions - capital intensity information / technology and systems / regulation and policy
- Key statistics - industry data / annual change / key ratios
You access the main sections and the subsections from the menu at the left e.g.
All the information is then presented on screen with clickable links to relevant reports / profiles if available.
The download icon next to the report title lets you see the whole report in PDF format.
In addition you will sometimes see a lightning bolt or star icon in the menu on the left. If available, the lightning bolt icon will take you to a relevant UK Risk Ratings Report, while the star icon will take you to a UK Brexit Impact Statement.
Business Environment Profiles
IBISWorld gives access to Business Environment Profiles from the UK and US.
These profiles give an insight into the drivers that effect industries and their performance but that are out of their control. These can include drivers such as exchange rates, commodity prices, interest rates, weather conditions, consumer attitudes, demographics and many more.
The reports are accessible by simply searching or browsing and following the relevant links. They include sections on current performance and outlook.
The download icon next to the report title lets you see the whole report in PDF format.
The Affected Industries option from the menu on the left will tell you what industries have been affected by this particular issue.
