Accessing American Chemical Society Journal Articles Via Inter-Library Loans

The Inter-library loans service is where we can request articles from another University Library for you. This service is designed to give fast provision of articles and is free for you to use

Step 1 - Find an article you want to read

The first step is to find an article you want to read that RGU do not have access to.

Go to the A-Z list of databases and follow the link to the platform: https://library.rgu.ac.uk/american-chemical-society-journals-database (log in if prompted).

Search for a topic and use the filters to narrow down the results to journal articles.

Anything that says “Subscribed”, “Open Access”, or “Free to Read” will be immediately accessible, for example:

For all other articles, have a look at the details/abstract and select those that you want to read.

For those articles make a note of the following information:

  • Article title
  • Author(s)
  • Journal name, Date, Volume, Issue, Page numbers
  • ISSN -International Standard Serial number - an 8 digit code unique to each journal with a format similar to 1234-5678 or 1234-567X. The ISSN isn't essential but it will speed up the processing of the request.
  • DOI - Digital Object Identifier - a link unique to each journal article. Also not essential but useful if you can provide it.

Step 2 - Make the inter-library loan request

Please use the blank ILL form to make your requests: https://librarysearch.rgu.ac.uk/discovery/blankIll?vid=44RGU_INST%3AVU1

Fill in the details, read the copyright terms and agree to them, and click Send Request.

Then simply wait to receive an email with the article attached.

If an article cannot be provided, you will be contacted and informed.
