Accessibility Support

We are committed to ensuring that all students can make full use of our services and facilities

Who is the library accessibility contact?

Maria Robertson is the Library's accessibility support contact. Maria can be contacted via email or by telephone on 01224 263450, and will be happy to discuss your individual needs in confidence. Maria can also arrange for a one-to-one visit to the Library if this would be useful.

What sort of general assistance do you offer?

We will be happy to provide assistance with finding and retrieving books, placing holds, using the photocopiers and printers, and explaining how the library works. If you cannot come to campus we can post books to you, although you do have to arrange their return. If its just a chapter or article you need we can digitise it and email it to you. If you would like any of our leaflets or guides in an alternative format, please just let us know.

Can you provide resources in alternative formats?

We will try to support you if you require access to books or other resources in alternative formats*. We work with a scheme called RNIB Bookshare and many titles are available in a variety of formats. We can also approach publishers on a case-by-case basis if the title you require is not held within RNIB Bookshare. Please be aware that we cannot guarantee to obtain the item in the format you require, we are entirely dependent on what publishers will make available to us, but we do always guarantee to try.

*You must have officially notified the University of your disability to make use of the alternative format service and have a designated 'Print Disability'. This is a legal requirement under UK Copyright law. Please contact the Inclusion Centre for advice on declaring a disability.

What about physical access to the Library?

A wheelchair accessible toilet is available on Level 5 of the Library. There is lift access to all floors of the Library and a height-adjustable desk is sited on each floor. There is also a Help Point on each floor which is normally staffed 0900-1700 Monday-Friday and ad-hoc assistance can be requested there. If the Help Points are not staffed then assistance can be sought at the Library Welcome Desk on Level 5. The Welcome Desk is staffed during all Library opening hours.

Are induction loops available?

Yes, the Library Welcome Desk and the Help Points are fitted with an induction loop.

How can I get further information?

Our team are happy to help during all Library opening hours but if you have a complex enquiry it's best to see us during daytime hours of 0900-1700 Monday-Friday.
