a.s.p. stands for Act of the Scottish Parliament. If you find details of an Act and it has an a.s.p. number then you can immediately tell it has come from the Scottish Parliament.

The inclusion of the word Scotland in the name of an Act does not necessarily mean it has come from the Scottish Parliament. Acts from the UK Parliament at Westminster may have (Scotland) in their title. This indicates they deal exclusively or predominately with matters relating to Scotland.

The number given to an Act is determined by the order in which Acts receive the royal assent in any year. In the example, a.s.p. 11 means that the Tenements (Scotland) Act 2004 was the 11th Act of the Scottish Parliament to receive the Royal Assent in the year 2004.
