Creating an Account

To begin using RefWorks, you must create an account.

To do this, you need to be able to access your RGU email account (address ending @rgu.ac.uk).

Access to RefWorks accounts is not available for ICRGU students.


Create Account

  • From the RefWorks login page, select the 'Create Account' option.
  • Do not select 'Use login from my institution'. This option does not let you create an RGU RefWorks account.
  • Use the email and password boxes on this login page to access your RefWorks account in future.

Enter RGU email

  • Enter your email address and select 'Check'. You must use your RGU email address in order to proceed.
  • You will be asked to create a RefWorks password. This password is not tied to your RGU systems password for Moodle, etc.
  • After entering your password, check your RGU email inbox for a confirmation email (check your junk folder if it does not appear). Follow the link in this email and proceed to the next step.

  • You can change your RefWorks password later by following the 'Forgot your password?' link from the RefWorks login page.

Complete account creation

  • Enter your name, then select your academic school and role from the drop-down lists. Click 'Next' to proceed and finish account creation.
  • Congratulations! You are ready to start using RefWorks with RGU. Please follow the rest of this guide for more information on how RefWorks can assist you with your learning and research.
