Unit 2: Adding References

From LibrarySearch

You can import reference information from LibrarySearch into RefWorks.

Once you have your search results, use any of the following options to add references to RefWorks.

Export a single result

  • You can select a single result by clicking the source title, or by selecting the ellipsis at the right-hand side.
  • Either action will display a 'RefWorks' option. Click this to proceed to the RefWorks Import screen.

Export a selection

  • Use the checkboxes to the left of individual results to select them.
  • To export your selections, click the ellipsis in the grey box at the top of your search results, then select 'RefWorks'.
  • Click the 'RefWorks' option to proceed to the RefWorks Import screen.

Export a whole search (max. 5,000 results)

  • You can also export a whole search if you wish, up to a total of 5,000 results. If your search exceeds this number, export will include the first 5,000 results only.
  • To do this, click the checkbox within the grey box at the very top of your search results, then select 'Export All Results'.
  • In the 'Export' menu, click the drop-down and select 'Export RIS', then 'UTF-8'.
  • Enter your email address in the To: box and click 'Send'. This will send an email with an RIS file attachment to your chosen email address. Look out for an email with the subject line 'Item(s) sent from LibrarySearch'.
  • Unlike the options above, this is not a direct export. Please consult our guidance on importing RIS files into RefWorks to proceed with adding your references.
