Author (Year). Title. (Edition, if not the first edition). Publisher.

The citation in your text will be:

…(Davey, 2014) or Davey (2014)…

or, if you have quoted directly,

(Davey, 2014, p.16).

If you have used the author's name in your sentence then only the year of publication, with a page reference if necessary, is placed after it in brackets, eg.

Davey (2014) states that ...

or, if you have quoted directly,

Davey (2014, p. 16) states that ...

Organisation as the author, which also published it

When an organisation is both the author and publisher, the publisher info is left out to avoid repetition. Sometimes books have been assigned a DOI number and this can be given.

Not the first edition (numerical)

Older book that has been reprinted or republished more recently

In this example, the book was published originally in 1964, and later went out of print. It was republished in 2011. Both dates are given in the in-text citation separated by a slash. The publisher should be the one which published the copy you read, which may be different to the original publisher.

Translated book

The name of the translator as initial then surname, then “Trans.” goes in brackets after the title.

Book that is a translation into English, republished

Info of this sort is often on the copyright page of the book or early pages.

Book in a language other than English (not translated) that you read in the original language

Translate the title into English in square brackets (not in italics) after the original title.
